The cover
Paper III, Auditing, is built on one section of the Act and one rule of the Rules. This volume is the whole book for it, 238 pages in one PDF: the four paper-forms, the auditor's rights, duties and liabilities, internal check, audit fees and classification, and where co-operative audit departs from company audit, with the 2026 and 2025 papers worked in full and the 2022 boss paper. It is built from a count of every Paper III from 2019 to 2026 and explains the 40 per cent pass rule.

Which of these is on your desk today?
Each one is answered in two lines here, and in full — with the provision and the mission that teaches it — inside.
How many marks do I need to pass, and what does a 50 do?
Forty per cent in each paper, with an aggregate of 240 of 600; because 240 is six times forty, the per-paper line is the real one. Fail the examination as a whole but score 50 per cent or more in a paper, and that paper is exempted next time, but only if you claim it in the application form, every year.
Who may sit: a graduate, or someone in service without a degree?
Any graduate of a recognised university, in any subject; or a permanent employee of Government, a co-operative institution or an APMC with the S.S.C. and five years' service (the Board's 2015 notice also lists the H.S.C. with three years). The 2012 regulation and the 2015 notice differ, so read the eligibility clause of the notification for your own sitting.
Question 1 is compulsory at 20 marks: true or false with explanation, and the reason is the mark. Questions 2 to 8 are seven questions of 16 marks each, of which you answer any five. The book gives the eighteen Question 1 propositions with their reasons, and the inverted pair to learn first.

The auditor's rights, duties and liabilities: which figures to know
Nine figures cover the question: four months, twenty societies, one month and before the AGM notice, fifteen days, three months, six months, five years, five thousand rupees, three consecutive years. Four months is s.81(1)(a); one month, s.81(5B); fifteen days, the specific report, then the First Information Report on the Registrar's written permission.
Under s.82(1), within three months of the audit report the society explains the defects to the Registrar, rectifies, reports the action taken and places that report before the next general body meeting. Under s.82(2) the Registrar scrutinises and informs the society within six months of receipt. Under s.82(3) the auditor gives itemwise remarks until rectification is complete. Rule 73 sends the report in Form O.
Scope of co-operative audit: the nine matters of s.81(2)
Overdues; cash, securities and the valuation of assets and liabilities; whether secured loans are properly secured and their terms not prejudicial; book-entry transactions; loans shown as deposits; personal expenses charged to revenue; expenditure in furtherance of objects; use made of Government or institutional assistance; performance of objects and obligations to members. Only the second is an audit of arithmetic.
s.81(2)Inside: Mission 3.9 · ¶3.922
Is internal audit compulsory?
Statutory audit is compulsory; internal audit is not. s.81(1)(a): at least once in each financial year, completed within four months of the close, by an auditor or firm from the panel prepared by the Registrar and approved by the State Government, appointed under s.75(2A) or 75(2B). Internal audit appears nowhere in the Act or the Rules, only in the housing bye-laws, and there it is permissive. Two marks, three sentences: verdict, instrument, contrast.
Rule 69(9): on completing his statutory audit the auditor awards an audit classification letter, in accordance with the Registrar's instructions, and the list published under s.12(3) specifies the audit class. Say who awards it (the auditor, not the Registrar and not the committee), when, on what authority, and that the grade is public. The letters are A, B, C and D (Excellent, Satisfactory, Poor, Very bad). Do not confuse it with classification of societies by type under s.12 and Rule 10.
s.66: reserve fund at not less than one-fourth of net profits, reducible by the Registrar but never below one-tenth. s.24A(3): the education and training contribution. s.69: up to 20 per cent for public purposes, and only after s.66 and the s.24A funds. s.67: dividend capped at 15 per cent without the Registrar's prior sanction. s.65(2): no appropriation is lawful without the approval of the annual general meeting. s.64: what may not be divided among members. Draw the chain downwards and the answer is largely written.

Paper III · The shape of the paper
The shape has not moved in six sittings. Question 1 is compulsory at 20 marks; Questions 2 to 8 are seven questions of 16 marks each and you answer any five. The paper puts 132 marks on the table, lets you attempt 100, and takes six answers in three hours (

Paper III · The auditor's duties
The auditor's duties. Audit within four months, 81(1)(a); contents of the report, 81(1)(e) — modus operandi, entrustment, amount involved in any fraud; submission within one month of completion and before the AGM notice, 81(5B); the specific report within fifteen days, then the First Information Report on the Registrar's written permission, first proviso to 81(5B); the Special Report, third proviso; the classification letter, Rule 69(9). Volume III is the book for Paper III, Auditing, of the Government Diploma in Co-operation and Accountancy (GDC&A). Papers I to III are also the three papers of the Certificate in Co-operative Housing Management (CHM), so this volume serves CHM candidates as well. The volume is complete for its own paper and does not need the other five.
Is this book endorsed by the GDC&A Board?
No. The book says so on its imprint page: it is not published, endorsed, approved by or affiliated with the Board, the Commissioner for Co-operation or any other authority. The Board has published no answer key or marking scheme, so no mark figure or answer in the book is the Board's unless the book says so in terms.
Is the law up to date?
The law is stated as it stood on 1 October 2026, including the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Rules, 2026, which inserted Chapter XI-B for housing societies. Where a past paper was set on older law, the book prints both and tells you which to write. Fees, rates and other figures a circular can change are printed with their source and date, or left out; check them against the Board's notification for your sitting.
Should I buy the set instead?
Only if you need more than one paper. This volume alone is ₹499. Papers I–III are the three papers a CHM candidate sits: three single volumes cost ₹1,497, against ₹1,399 for the English CHM Set, a saving of ₹98; the Set also costs just ₹401 more than any two volumes. For all six papers, six volumes cost ₹2,994, against ₹1,699 for the English Complete Set, a saving of ₹1,295. The set prices are introductory prices valid until 31 December 2026. If this paper is all you need, buy this volume.
How do I get the files after paying?
Payment gives you a download link on the confirmation page and by email. Your file stays in your Library at societysewa.in/library, which you open any time with your email address; the emailed link also works for 12 months. The file is one PDF: open it in any PDF reader on a phone, tablet or computer.
Is there a Marathi edition?
Yes, sold separately. It is translated from the English edition; legal terms follow the Board's Marathi papers and the Marathi Act. This English edition is the original.
Will I get corrections?
Yes. Corrections received are carried into the next edition, and buyers of this digital edition receive the corrected file free of charge from their SocietySeWA library at societysewa.in/library.
Can I share, resell or refund it?
The licence is for the buyer's personal study: the files may not be shared, resold or posted online. Digital downloads are delivered at once, so sales are final; if a file will not open or is damaged, write to support@societysewa.in and we will re-send or fix it.
Yours permanently
Corrections received are carried into the next edition, and buyers of this digital edition receive the corrected file free of charge from their SocietySeWA library at societysewa.in/library. Each edition states the date the law was read: law as on 1 October 2026. Figures a circular can change, such as fees, rates and thresholds, are printed with their source and date, or left out; check them against the current circular and the Board's notification for your own sitting.
The Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, the Rules, the bye-laws and the Board's past papers are public. What you pay for is the work of reading all of it against the papers: a frequency map of every GDCA paper from 2019 to 2026, the missions built from it, the past papers with worked answers and pointers, the cheat sheets. The Board has published no answer key, marking scheme or weighting, so every mark figure in the book is the Board's printed figure or the authors' own count, and says which. Seven sittings show a tendency, not a promise: each campaign prints its worst year as well as its average. The book does not guarantee a pass, is not endorsed by the Board, and is not legal advice.
Do not buy this if…
×you want a promise of a pass: no book can give one. This one shows where the marks have been in seven sittings and what the pass rule is
×you want the Board's own answer key or marking scheme: the Board has published none, and this book is not endorsed by the Board
×you need a commentary on the whole Act: selected bare-Act provisions are in an appendix, but this is an exam guide
×you want a printed book: this is a digital edition in PDF, licensed to you for personal study
×you are sitting other papers too: you need their volumes, or a set, which costs less than buying every volume separately
×you read Marathi more comfortably: a Marathi edition of this volume is sold separately
×you need advice on a live society matter: see a qualified advocate
Where this product stops and a lawyer starts
This is an examination guide. It states the law as it stood on 1 October 2026 and does not apply it to anyone's facts. For a live dispute, a bye-law question or a notice you have received, take the papers to a qualified advocate.
